I bought USF4 on steam lately, and I must say it's pretty interesting. It didn't take me too long to figure out the controls, as well as memorize the specials for a few characters (I feel as though every gamer should know Ryu's moves). I've gotten pretty good with Dudley, having down a few combos that do a fair amount of damage. Davregis still destroys me with Vega though D:

My only complaint about fighting games is not that they're complicated or hard to handle, but that most of them do literally nothing to introduce you to even its most basic mechanics. You're left to figure it out all on your own by looking up how to not lose on sites such as shoryuken and eventhubs. Executing a special is one thing. Doing a link combo, FADC'ing and canceling into it is another.

Really can't argue about that. I often try to coach people new to the genre to the best of my abilities.

I usually spend a buttload of time on GGPO playing KOF98 and sometimes KOFXIII on Steam.

Barlowe is super fun to play with!

'Scuse the double post, but I'd like to help manage this thread when news comes about.

If this is true, I'm super pumped, more KOF on Steam is always a good thing.

If only more developers could follow SNK and Capcom's example and release more fighters on PC

Still mad at you ArcSys and your online-less Steam releases

Seth in USF4 gave me hell the first few times. Cheating bastard and his command reading... If you even so much as lightly touch the jump button, he'll shoryuken. If you come within 3 inches of him, command grab. If you light punch, he'll use his Ultra. Not to mention that Seth's only weakness, his low HP, was removed for the sake of being a final boss. I found that the only way to win against him was to cheat back. Use nothing but focus attacks and keep him knocked down, and you'll win.

Yup, good ol' SNK Boss syndrome.

Also, I'm honestly considering on getting KOFXIII on Steam if I ever get money again, would any of you folks recommend it?

I say it's pretty fantastic. It's what got me into KOF in the first place so I would wholeheartedly recommend it. Don't go in expecting rollback netcode ala Supercade/GGPO though. But the netcode is a huuuuuge improvement over what was on the 360/PS3 so I say it's pretty good nonetheless.

As for hated final bosses, KOF95's Saisyu/Omega Rugal combo was such a pain in the neck and is one of the only KOF bosses I've never legitimately beaten.

If your computer can run it, then sure! It's a ton of fun.

Just so you know, it's more beefy than say Skullgirls or the Touhou fighting games, so if your computer isn't as strong then you should keep this in mind. (tho if your computer can handle livestreaming stuff then it should work fine)

Omega Mode for USF4 announced as free DLC.

Sadly I gotta say this looks more fun than most of SF4 in general.

Deejay this is your last chance to be good

Unlike Street Fighter X Tekken, this is free DLC they are just doing for fun. Not everything equals on-disk.

So does Omega mode change every stage to be a simple flat platform with no hazards?

Allow me to interrupt this thread in order to talk about Blade Symphony.

Blade Symphony is "an online tactical swordfighting game" that, while classified as a fighting game, differs quite a lot from your standard fighting game setup. Instead of facing each other on a flat 2D screen, players instead fight in a 3D where there is a much larger focus on positioning and timing than other games in the genre. There are currently four types of characters in the game which dictate your general style and swordfighting technique, from Judgment with his slow but implacable heavy attacks, to Ryoku with his quick, up close and relentless comboing. In addition to that, the type of sword you're using will also affect how you fight: A rapier will deal more damage with thrusting attacks but much less damage with side attacks, while a Jian can be used to intercept enemy attacks and give you an opening. All in all it ends up being quite enjoyable experience, and a fresh take on the fightin game genre as a whole.

But, wait, it gets better. Did I mention that the game is entirely free to play until the end of the week? Now you have no excuse to not try it out. So go check it out on the steam store, then throw me a message so we can do some sword fighting.
