So how about those Olympics
« on: July 28, 2012, 12:21:00 AM »
Today was the opening ceremony.

'Twas a re-enactment of the history of England and perhaps the U.K., until a Queen Elizabeth stunt
double parachuted in. Regardless, I'm sure others can offer a far better description than I.
...
I've not found a video of it yet.

Saw it on the telly. Did anyone catch a glimpse of the kid on the doorstep with the Nintendo 3DS? Anyway, it was all brilliant, except for when the guy started rapping.

EDIT: And yeah, Rowan Atkinson was brilliant, too.

I've watched the past three opening ceremonies in their entirety.  I gave up on London.  This has been hands down the single worst ceremony I've ever seen.  It started out kind of cool with that transition from grassy field to the Industrial Revolution (although that was dragged on for too long) but it's just been downhill from there.  The James Bond thing made no sense whatsoever as it really had nothing to do with him being a secret agent and seemed like a lazy way to throw him in there, Mary Poppins beating Lord Voldemort was just a big WTF segment, and the giant social media crap thing was full of terrible rap and made no sense:  IF SHE LOST HER PHONE, HOW THE HELL IS SHE ANSWERING TEXT MESSAGES?

Hell, the highlight for me was Bradley Wiggins because I actually watch the Tour de France every year.

I believe Mr. X when he says it's the worst ever.

They did an amazing job with that industrial revolution thing, especially making ourselves look as if we agree with our posh British stereotype and look overly proud of it. Dear god, why did they bother doing that? That would have been a lot of money being spent on DUMB.

Mr. Bean made it worth it though. He was being a legend as always.

I woke up today, turned the TV on and was greeted to the iconic ending words to the last song (not counting Her Majesty) of The Beatles' iconic album, Abbey Road, aptly named The End. Turns out I missed a good chunk of the ceremony, but after I skimmed through it all, there didn't seem to be that much worth catching up on. Aside from the Mr. Bean segment, of course. Rowan Atkinson is a legend.
