Rockman 8-Bit Battle X
« on: October 17, 2012, 02:12:30 AM »
So this kind of got skimmed over earlier when I posted it in the Spamthread...maybe I should try a topic of its own?

Rockman 8-Bit Battle X
is a Mega Man-inspired Smash Bros.-type game being developed by folks over at Exploding Rabbit.  The plot is simple and fairly unnecessary--Dr. Wily has used technology to open portals to other worlds, in the hopes that he could tap into evils from other worlds to help him destroy Mega Man.  Of course, in his ignorance, those dimensional portals also let in heroes of many kinds.  In an effort to keep them from focusing on destroying him, Wily arranges a tournament, leading the heroes to fight each other instead of him.  Each character, in addition to having some basic attack, is planned to have 6-10 Mega Man-style weapons (Not necessarily from Mega Man games, just styled like Mega Man weapons), in addition to a Super Attack that you charge up by dealing damage to your opponents.
...Now, I'm going to be frank:  the guys over at Exploding Rabbit are kind of dreamers.  They're taking this like, "hah, we'll make this game, and we'll put all these characters in it, and it'll be so awesome," but I'm not so sure about how well they'll do the "make this game" part.  I, like any of you, would like to see an MM-inspired fangame come to life, but in this phase, Rockman 8-Bit Battle X may not be coming to life.  So please, if you could spare your coding knowledge or your weapon-balancing bats or perhaps just your spriting skill to keep some of these dudes from being just MM edits, I'm sure the folks down at Exploding Rabbit would vastly appreciate any help.

You can read additional information about the up-and-coming game, including planned characters, stages, and gameplay mechanics, here.

Now, as you saw in the Spamthread, CutManMike is planned to be in this game--I took charge of making him, for obvious reasons.
(click to show/hide)
...But I've reached a block.  I've got a good amount of original weapons for him there, but I don't know what else to add.  If someone could come along and toss in some additional suggestions (Or perhaps just tell me what some of his favorite MM weapons are, because that's what the first slot was specifically reserved for), it would help me and my personal endeavor along greatly.

First of all:

MEGA MAN EDITS. MEGA MAN EDITS EVERYWHERE

Second of all:

Clearly, you could just ask him for his favorite MM special weapons, or just use very obscure special weapons from very obscure MM games. Or just grab some of the most famous mod community weapons and strap them on him.

@CHAOS
I saw that, and I agree that they're working too hard on the "characters" part, and not enough on the "other aspects of the game" part.
Despite that, I, on their wiki, had the idea of putting Max, from Mutant Mudds, in that game. Yes, I'm their "Game&Watcher" too.

You say to save these guys from making MM edits, yet THAT'S ALL I SEE IN THE FIRST PLACE except, for whatever reason, Rainbow Dash... God, how is she considered a hero if she's not even in a video game in the first place?!

Besides we've already got this covered through MEGA SMASH (kind of) so blah

Every thing in the above post.
First of all, I believe CHAOS means save them from future Megaman edits.
Second of all (regarding your small text), they are taking their "heroes" from all sorts of Media. (Except for Literature and Anime, for some reason.)
Third of all, I haven't seen much progress on Mega Smash lately, in fact, I've almost forgot about the project.

...I knew it.  I fucking knew you guys would respond this way.  Okay, on the page alone here...
- Finn and Ryu have been stopped in their tracks
- AVGN and JonTron are still in development
- The one in dark blue is DarkBowser100, the only person currently working on actually coding the game, and I think he deserves a little leeway
- Giana, Mario, Cut-Man, X, and the yellow character at the far left are not edits
- Leaving two characters that flew in under the the radar:  Quote and the orange Sonic FC.
...By all means, guys, let's go fucking nuts on them for letting two MM edits slip into the game.  We're guilty of more MM edits than they are right now.  Yes, they're bad; yes, they must be corrected, but I wish you guys would stop being so stubborn and try getting them to actually fix it.
I knew I'd be met this way, I just knew it, but I silently hoped you guys would be better.

Well, the last time I was here, CutManMike was a busy dude who rarely got on the forums.  As far as I know, that hasn't changed, so I figured it wasn't worth actually bothering he himself.  I really want CutManMike to play like someone CutManMike would actually want to play like, or at least bear weapons he likes (Hence, the reason why I added Hunter Bow and Hell Fire), so I figured the best solution would be to just ask you guys.  I'm sorry if that was the wrong course of action.

You posted a picture of Megaman edits and you expect us to not mention there are megaman edits?
...what?

Personally, I have an intense dislike for bad megaman edits. If the dude put in a little more effort into the guy who's supposed to represent him than a simple recolor, then I wouldn't mind he's a megaman edit.

You may want to have the Castlevania Cross in there, as he streamed himself only using that a few times. "Cutman Mode," iirc

(I thought I already posted this but I guess not...)

So let me get this straight:  It's a Mega Man fighting game...but without (a vast majority of) the Mega Man characters and weapons.  Oh, and it plays like Smash Bros, not necessarily like Mega Man.

So...why is it a Mega Man game again?  I mean, it sounds like they wanted to make a game with a bunch of different characters and then went "why take the effort to have our own style when we can just make Mega Man edits/styled sprites and call it a day!"

Oh, and what the heck is Proto Man's ghostly head doing in the corner?  Is his ghostly head a playable character too?

EDIT: Oh, and the logo looks like Rockman X 8-bit Battle.  Good thing there's not another game called Rockman X, right? ...right?

More important question is, do you even have Mikes permission to use his likeness?

This game looks to be the bomb dot com, can't wait to punk out fools with my home slice CMM (cutman mike). Wish you the best of luck in development, I'll be there day one!

No.
But I expect you to walk into this (Except none of you are walking into this) with a positive attitude instead of being too critical to help.  At the very least, don't tell me this--we all know that I already know--go marching over there and tell them this.  Oh, believe you me, I tried to tell them that MM edits are lazy and look unprofessional, but they wouldn't listen to just me; I'm the only guy saying that.  Like I've become fond of saying, though..."no one's opinion is more right than everyone's."
Look, I posted the picture because it's the closest thing we've got to a logo.  It hasn't been updated in months.

Okay, the only qualities it shares with Smash Bros. are the melee attacks and Super Attacks, resembling the concept of Final Smashes from SSBB.  Otherwise, it's more similar in concept and character roster.  It's not a good description; I'm sorry for that.
It's in Mega Man-style because that's what a lot of people on the forums know how to work with.  Before they started this project, they were doing mods of 7FC and 8FC (And I mean the whole nine yards, with custom stages and everything).
And, if I follow them correctly, we hope to have at least one representative from each Mega Man game.  It won't exactly play like you are the Robot Master, more of they feature all the weapons from the game they're from, but it's better than nothing.

Proto Man is on the roster as well, but--as you can see--the building's a little cluttered already.

...Well, no...but, like, I said, they were already going to make him without me--with or without his permission.  Besides, why would you ever not want to be in a video game?
...Fine.  I'll fire up the PM blaster and ask him right now.

A positive response?  You're joking...you are joking, right?
Well, I appreciate any support, even if it is just "hey, this looks interesting."

To be honest, a game with such community and uh...devteam like you described rarely if not never gets off the ground at all.

This seems to be a cheap shot at promoting people's sprites and characters without actually having a game to put them in. A false promise. A wet dream. A hype train destined to never leave the station.

I'll come back when there's at least a decent quantity of GAMEPLAY in this fanGAME for me to watch. If that ever happens.

This sort of reminds me of the game Fyone, Gumballtoid, Star Dood, and I have been working on.. Except I fail to see why there are certain characters in this game that literally are not related to Megaman in any way shape or form, it baffles me. Those sprites don't really look impressive either. Not just the megaman edits, most of the sprites look pretty meh.
