IIRC you can also edit Build engine (Duke nukem 3d, Blood, etc.) and Quake files with it, as well as any game that uses ZIP format for their files.

Quite interesting, you mean it can directly interact with the build engine .map files or simply read them when they happen to be in a zip like it does with regular Doom maps?
As for the main post, i dont know of any tutorial to use Slumped or Slade, but they're really easy to get the hang of anyway, detailed tutorials about DECORATE, for example, might instruct you to make a file with your editor called simply decorate, though extensions like .txt or .wav/.ogg and whatnot are still possible but not needed most of the time, i think.
There's a fair share of tutorials on
http://zdoom.org/wiki/
for doom editing. Great place to learn DECORATE and ACS, and various other filetypes.
Otherwise, one of the best ways to learn aside from a tutorial is to look at and learn how someone else made theirs. Oh, and this topic is probaly in the wrong forum, there's a
Help & Editing
forum for topics like these that are for general help and doom/mm8bdm editing help.
