Mega Man 3 cover playthrough
« on: December 05, 2012, 02:17:50 AM »
After 9 months of work (random laziness / sidetracking!) I've finally released the Mega Man 3 cover playthrough.  You can see it here:

This is a video of me playing through Mega Man 3 with all the music remixed using the VRC6 expansion in stereo.  Headphones are recommended as the stereo was programmed with headphones in mind.  Enjoy!

I also released this on Bandcamp (linked in youtube description as well): http://rushjet1.bandcamp.com/album/mega-man-3-remade

Man, I love this album so much.

I love how you projected every song with originality and confidence to the point where it's like greeting an old friend you haven't seen in a long while.

I'm not a fan of VRC6, or the original MM3 soundtrack, but you managed to combine the two together in perfect harmony.

I'd say my favorites among the bunch were Shadow Doc, Needle Man, Wily 1, Wily 3, all three forms of the boss theme, the Wily Boss theme, and Gamma.

I'll definitely be purchasing it whenever I get around to obtaining money.

I got a small taste of this a little while ago, it was awesome. I especially loved the Marine Fortress cover.

I also never knew you had a Cutstuff account!

I used to play MM8BDM a ton back in the second half of 2010.

I saw this the other day and this was freaking amazing. I especially love what you did with the boss rush and the Wily castle boss.

This is really awesome, great job.

I was going to post about this here, but I'm glad I didn't. A post by RushJet1 himself, awesome!

I've been listening to this non-stop for the past 3 days, and recommending it on Twitter and whatnot. It's completely amazing! The play through was also intense, I couldn't take my eyes away from it for the whole hour. The sinister themes for the Doc Robot stage revisits and boss battles are excellent. Amazing job on this, soundtrack, thanks so much!

So am I the only one who's not really crazy about this?

For one, I feel like the point of the Gamma theme soared right over your head.  MM3DW3 was a tense theme where Mega Man was exhausted, nervous, and possibly fearing defeat at the hands of whatever awaited him in the next room.  You...really aren't supposed to turn songs like that into a battle theme, let alone the final battle theme.  The song does sound like it suffered due to the fact that MM3DW3 was its main melody, and it easily could have been something else.  And all this is staying away from the critical point that Gamma doesn't need a final battle theme, since nobody fought him for more than thirty seconds anyway.

Shadow Doc just sounds lazy.  The decreased tempo makes me imagine Mega Man struggling to stay awake, rather than crawling through Shadow's twisted, spike-laden stage.

In addition, Proto Man's whistle is missing the instrument (Sorry if it's the wrong word, hell if I know proper music terminology) that made it sound like a whistle to begin with, which makes the song very empty to me.

I feel like (and I sure as heck know some other dudes feel like) the Gamma fight was meant to be something more. Had the Powered Up series continued, I would have loved to see an updated battle. In that sense, I'm all for having a unique battle theme.

Really, my only complaint with the album is not covering the epilogue tune (I love that song!). All of the other great tracks more than make up for it, though!

@Chaos

I, personally, disagree on all accounts, especially on that "nobody fought him for more than thirty seconds anyway." Who would stay on the title, password, or stage select screen for more than thirty seconds? Well, aside from someone who's playing for the first time, not really anyone, and yet they all have songs in basically every megaman game ever.

For Shadow Doc, try to imagine Megaman going through a dark, damp sewer, not quite knowing where he's going to go, and being faced with adversaries from his last challenge, Megaman 2.

Protoman's whistle still sounds like a whistle, but it just cuts out when the other instruments come in, and I don't see that as a problem, mostly because I really like the rearranging of that part.

Personally, I really enjoy this album, and I say good job, Rushjet!
