[Suggestion] Only allow tinyurl or bit.ly or shortened links
« on: December 20, 2012, 11:14:33 PM »
As a constant browser on this, I have seen many posts with links. The upsetting thing is: Nearly all the time the links are way too long they occupy the entire page. URL= will still be allowed, and this is a exception to IMG code.
Let me know what you think, I bet everyone's just gonna say no because this means everytime they post a link they have to use:

http://bit.ly

or

http://tinyurl.com .

Whatever.

I'd prefer to see what I'm clicking on before I do so.

A good thing to add is when you hover over the link, the main link will show up. If that's possible.

If I recall correctly, there are plugins for that in Firefox, but I doubt they work on redirect URLs. So, we better know by reading the URL beforehand than to risk our luck.

I assume you mean posting direct links to images or pages holding said images? If that's the case, i honestly never was too bothered seeing a link like that. Given their size people ussually put them below their text or in-between things anyway, in the end making the post just as readable.
(Or they'll be even nicer by embedding it into their text, whatever works.)

So yeah i'll have to say no, its fine the way it is. Also indeed a major risk if we didnt know what we're clicking on, not everyone's using FireFox, hell i'm still using IE, mostly because its the only browser that runs Youtube and Flash things, and i wouldnt trust Google's with a huge stick either, given their information collecting habits. :P

Of course, I actually lengthened the link size.

You already can shorten links using the forum's URL code.
Code: [Select]
[url=http://www.google.com]Here, let me google that for you][/url]Translates into this:
Here, let me google that for you

See? The link has been shortened by including it in the url tag (and hyperlinking selected text instead). Tinyurls are unnecessary (and asking for trouble).
