MM8BDM Wiki Revival Project: Apply Within!
« on: December 25, 2012, 10:24:29 PM »
Hello users of Cutstuff! With the recent release of MM8BDM v3a, we figured this would be the best time to revive the wiki and make it a reliable resource for newer (and possibly even veteran) players. Our goal is to bring the wiki to the standard level of a wikia and go above and beyond that if possible.

The wiki is found here.

Thank you!

Desired Position: Stages Management
How Efficient You Are: Well, I'm sure I can finish a map page in half an hour
How Dedicated You Can Be: As long as there's new maps, I promise not to slack off.
Why You Deserve This Position (a sentence or two): Because yes.

Because yes.

You might want to give a better reason then that.  Just saying.

Anyway, reviving the MM8BDM wiki sounds like a good idea,
I don't think I can help much with it,
But at least I too support it.

552 screenshots... and counting.

I got the job anyways... the very same day I applied :I
If anyone wants to help the wiki in any way, I'll need 1024 by 768 screenshots of the yashichi locations in every stock Mm8BDM map. I only really need MM7-MM8, but any more screenshots are welcome. Expect lots of screenshots to be added to the wiki in the coming weeks, as well as updates on all your favorite maps.

I know an easy way on how to create map images from SLADE on each stage, Doom Wiki style. Here's Grenade Man's stage for an example.

I'll see what I can do for helping out, especially considering my knowledge with Wikis as a whole.

Though what I'd probably recommend doing first is updating both the weapons and stages so they include MM8's roster.

I don't know if you guys are still keeping in mind the Wiki project...?
The great thing is that we won't have to make any boring-for-the-wiki-writers editing pages about actions (A_SpawnItem, ThrustThingZ...) or any kind of editing properties, the ZDOOM wiki already has those.
On my side, I'm not a regular maintainer, but I may edit random stuff here and there. Like, map structure descriptions or weapons properties are my favourite topics. Should I spend some time doing this, or is it not worth ?

EDIT - Also, I wonder why did you turn the Weapons page into a Category one... loved so much more the old one with the weapon's picture, name, original game, damages, etc... in a table.

Absolutely feel free to help out in any way you like! We have people to prevent anything stupid from going through.

The reason we changed the Weapons page to a Category is simply because it works better.

Okie dokie lokie, I just started in mind with "editing stuff here and there", but since there aren't a lot of people who are editing with me... I feel a little free on it, so this motivated me to modify everything on my plans (these are good plans, don't worry =w=) so here's my post-it.

Wiki Name : Different than here. It's Margatroid Alice.
Desired Position:Dedicated Contributors for each section. Specifically, I'll mostly update and write for Stages and Weapons first, then I may transitioning to mods and the other stuff. I'm not good at file upload management, through.
How Efficient You Are: It's my first Wiki "big" contribution, but I know the basis and some tricks (templates, maps information boxes, etc...) anyway the most important is on getting informations, and writing. I'm actually pretty ok with them.
How Dedicated You Can Be: I want to have the Wiki quickly floating back to the surface ; also I think I may edit it once I finished my homeworks until the next day. Notice that this means I'll only go and work for school, and edit Wikis when I get at home ~_~ but don't feel guilty, I really enjoy spreading my some knowledges on it.
Why You Deserve This Position (a sentence or two): I like MM8BDM. Potatoes is quite a good dish, but not as tasty as cucumbers.

EDIT : Also, do you know where could I see an official's map creator ? Most of the MM1-6 maps already have their creator mentionned on the Wiki, but I don't know where to find their name for MM7-8 maps.

EDIT2 : Okie for the Category:Weapons page creation. But two things, the old table looked better with the weapons icons and all.. and it was also easily possible to check for a weapon by looking at the order of game...
And second thing, would you like me to do the same for the Stages page (turn it into a Category page) ?

EDIT3 (my, my brain...) : the older Mega Man weapons (1~6) have an animated gif to show the one who's looking on the Wiki, how do the weapons look like. I was wondering what softs do you use to :
Record MM8BDM and convert the video into a gif
Add a picture on this video (you know, the kyute robot master on the top right-hand corner)

EDIT4 (teehee) : If I get done with the official MM8BDM weapons, could I make pages for some custom ones ? I'll point out the creator's name, of course.

The Wiki seems to be updated quite often, however, I think we should change the background to something that will fit a Megaman related Wiki

Might as well make this official.

Wiki Name: ShysterMkX

Position: Dedicated contributor guy thing person... I just want to write, eh?

Efficiency: Better than most. Wiki editing is more fun than it seems, and I'll be sure to work on it a little almost every day.

Dedication: I feel the need to be consistent and hardworking, qualities rather rare on the internet, in order to gain same notoriety around here. Thus, I don't think I'll just bail anytime soon.

Why I deserve to help the wiki: I have absolutely no wiki writing experience, but I'm a good expository writer in general and I pay immaculate attention to detail. If the article isn't absolutely perfect, I won't publish it.

And yes, I would agree the wiki needs some better aesthetics to be taken seriously.

Name: Magnet Dood
Position Desired: Major Mod Management (preferrably expansions, but I can do others)
How Efficient I am: I generally try to write quality stuff whenever I write it, but usually it doesn't take too long.
How Dedicated You Are: Depends if I forget about it. :B I'll probably keep up to date on stuff like this though
Why You Should Get the Job: Let's face it- I'm one of the only people who ever ventures into the dark underworld known as the Work In Progress Forum on a regular basis. I've got the details on nearly on WIP expansions, so I think I could help out with this department.

Well, it's finally time to begin revamping the map pages. It looks like Alice has set up most of them, leaving the writing to me.
I've finished with Cut Man's Stage, and I want get some input on whether it will be a good template for the rest of the stages.
If so, I'll move forward with standardizing the stock maps of the game, then the CTF maps, and then move on to the custom maps, which will certainly keep me busy for a while!

Anyway, go check out the standard!

Unyuu~, I try my hand at writing articles occasionally (it's-a-me behind the redaction of all the MM7/MM8 weapons, or at least before you fixed them). Remember of Noise Crush ? Me too. It was I who wrote the starting block text.
Anyway, as for weapons, I think we both did a great job on them. You at redacting with a grammar style, and for writing the how to use them, and me for the advanced weapon template, the gif that shows the weapon versus the Robot Master that hit too, and eventually the starting text that you edit. Also I think I have to do the Laser and Arrow Buster's gifs, they're the only one left, through I don't know which map and foe should use it in the gif.
But anyway, weapons are probably definitely done. until further informations or section to add. So feel free to take a look at them, players.

Concerning maps, the only thing I added was the "Difficulty" thing that shows a picture of 1 to 5 mettaurs. Dangerous stages like Gravity or Oil Man have a difficulty of 4, basic stages like Ice Man, or Flash Man have a easier difficulty.
Now, I'll leave the job of finding ideas of information to the lazy ones. I'm watching you, Human Destroyer, eeer Boss >w>

Shyster, since we're going into the maps, do you have your own presentation ? As for Cut Man's, you seem to have inherit of some properties of the older map page : first block is about the level's general layout (traps, kind of weapons present there, eventually the map's trivia..), then, an accurate layout investigation, that I wondered if really useful (because running through each end of a map is sooooo quickly done... I'm sure a player could discover the map faster by playing than by reading its composition, so I had trouble with the layout section, but feel free to you if you want to make one-), and finally, the "strategy" part that you created, and it's a very good idea to have this. I can't wait to make or see a strategy guide, one day ~w~
Also, you can leave me the job of the level's picture and the Yashishi's location, I'll take care of it. Through my computer is too weak to open maps, so I can't upload map photos.

Just a last annex question, do you prefer making weapon or map pages ?
