Mafia Island - Day 1


They arrived five minutes before the note demanded. Sure enough, there were other Cutopians already here, unaware of the situation. To them, this was just a normal Tuesday, where they would meet up on the island and have a game of mafia. The group of players was busy discussing which one of them was secretly Gravity Man, as he apparently had the power to eliminate players during the night by inverting their gravity until they flew upwards out of bounds.

This was not a normal Tuesday.

"Do you think we'll have enough time to clear everyone from the island?" HD asked.
"I doubt it, Tradley," Ivory warned. "They won't be willing to leave in the middle of their game unless we tell them the danger they're in... and if we do that, they'll be too busy panicking to board the ship in time. Or, worse, we could inadvertently tip off our little 'mystery guest' and get into a real jam..."
"Or the villain could be right under our noses!" Brotoad commented. "We could end up ferrying the threat right to the mainland! And if we don't hit him with a Bubble Lead, he could turn into AN ALIEN and destroy EVERYTHING!!"
Ivory closed her eyes. "... Shut up, Gill."

The guards walked over to the main group, who noticed their presence.

"Heeeeeyyyyy, it's I-VO-RAAAAAAYYYYY!!" Obelisk shouted. "WASSAAAAAAP!!"
"We're about to kill off Kenkoru!" Watzup smiled.
"I'm afraid you'll have to wait until the next game before you can join," Cold Fusion said.
"Look, we're in a hurry," Ivory said. "We don't have time for this..."

"Oh? I'm afraid you have all the time in the world."

The group turned around to the voice. A tall, thin man of about twenty. Grey, short hair. Black and red tunic. A small scar cut across his nose. His very presence gave off an aura of despair... a very dark aura.

He ran a hand through his hair. "Oh, Ivory dear, I'm so flattered you could make it."
Ivory readied sword from her hip. "Who are you?"
"Me? I assure you we've met before." The man took a few steps forward. "My name... is Lament."
Ivory shook her head, steadying herself. "You're lying! Lament is dead!"
"Really, now?" Lament sighed. "Search your soul. You know my existence to be fact. And soon..."

He raised one hand toward the sky. It was clouding up quickly. Ominous black shrouds obscured the sun.

"Soon, our team CrackHack will reject your realities... and substitute our own."

Ivory was blinded by a sudden flash of light. When she lowered her arm, she saw that her sword was gone from her side. She didn't feel her hair on her shoulders. Frantically spinning around, her entire appearance was altered. Or... his? It was hard to tell. Apparently the other Cutopians were in the same state of shock and disbelief, looking themselves over with horror.

"Wh-what's going on?" Beed? yelled out.
"Wait, it's his fault!" Kapus? shouted, pointing at Lament. "Quick, attack while he's recharging!"

Ivory watched in disbelief as a perfect replica of herself drew her sword and stabbed Lament through the chest. Lament gasped in pain, slumping over... and dissolving away?

"Hahahaha... HAHAHAHA..."

Lament's laughter could be heard in the distance. Its sound was almost ghastly.

"Obviously you do not comprehend your current situation, so I will give you one piece of advice. Everyone is not who you think they are. You have all been given the abilities and powers of your allies, and our agents are hidden among you. However, you will not be aware of this yourselves, as you will behave and think like the person you are disguised as. This is your final test of survival. And with that... I leave! Haha... haha! HAHAHAHA! AAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!"

Coughing came from the fizzing body. Recognizing the voice, LlamaHombre? ran over to its side.

"Hey... I'm sorry... it had to be this way..." the boy smiled with his remaining energy.
"Don't worry, you'll respawn in a few days," Llama said behind tears.
"Hey... Llama..."
"Yeah?"
The boy closed his eyes. "How about that Hyperdimension Neptunia?"
Llama gripped the boy's hand, straightening his face. "I think it's the fucking best."
"Yeah? That's swell..."

The boy's head leaned back onto the ground. His body faded away, separating into orbs of light. The orbs moved outward like a radial explosion, carrying his soul's essence away from Mafia Island.

Llama stood up from the ground, his head lowered. "We're going to destroy those jerks."
