i think first one to the finish would be better then, that way all the other players would be killed and the person who crosses the line first would win! should totally make other maps like this, like one where the bikes are on land!

It could easily be done if you had LMS in mind. At the finish line just have it kill everyone except the winner!

That's exactly what I was planning on doing.  The winner wins and the rest go BOOM!  That way, people who might purposely stay at the start to troll everybody else wouldn't interfere with the game.

The problem with these courses is that they might have to be pretty short.  Already, the size is approaching the largest levels in the game and the race is only up to about 15 seconds.  I never realized just how fast those things are!  I'm going to proceed cautiously because any sort of lag generated by the level would make the race extremely difficult.  Also, as of right now, there's only support for 12 racers since I think many more would make it beyond chaotic, but I could always rework the starting line to support more.

Otherwise, I'll wait and see the feedback on this course once it is released, but I'm already thinking about an ice themed one, a sewer/city one, and a Wily stage one!

It should be fine as long as there aren't billions of projectiles existing in the game at the same time. Also slower speed boats could be easily made.

you can just make the track have more twists and turns! that way it will use up less space on the map! i'd love to see a sewer themed map, and i have this cool idea that would basically be a tube with water in that goes through space!

Oh wow!  Neat idea.  And the stage its self looks great!  Make this happen!  What do you think about using Mega Man Soccer music for the racing music? :p

I just have the music set to MM10 Special Stage 3 right now.  I've never heard the music to MM Soccer, maybe I'll check it out.

Just make the boats go a tad slower and avoid having too many NPC "things" on the map like CutmanMike said.

Problem solved.
Oh, and please make a track where you race through/around/on top of Pirate Man's pirate ships.

But I've already started designing the course with the current speed.  Plus, I don't know how to change the boat's speed.  As for "things", I keep putting in a few cacti here and there.  So far, lag is not an issue, but making a minute long course might have problems.  We'll see.

I don't suppose there's a way to implement code for laps?

I don't know, but my stage isn't going to be circular.  As I said to carthief when I came up with this idea, the stage setup is going to be similar to Hydro Thunder if you've ever played that.  Plenty of shortcuts, one long track as opposed to a circular route with multiple laps (although some Hydro Thunder courses were circular, if I remember correctly).

I played an F-Zero DOOM Mod once, and it had laps, so yes, you can use them.

Ok, I'm setting up a small poll here, but I don't want to actually set it up as a poll, so...

Should I keep the boost when you crash or have it crash and die.  At first, I was going to remove it to prevent people from crashing and then just sitting there with no option but to suicide.  However, I thought of two things it could be used for.

1) A shortcut requiring you to boost up to a ledge which would lead to a teleporter that teleports you to a jet bike dispenser later in the level.

2) A way to screw up other racers who haven't crashed.  If you're far ahead but crash, you can try to screw everybody else up by raining weapons on them as they pass by.  This would especially be useful for a team race.

What do you think?

I say keep the boost. More strategic options makes it more fun!
