Super Mario Bros. 3 Map
« on: October 14, 2013, 09:49:29 PM »
Hi everyone!

I was sitting around one day and got to thinking...

"Why not make a map based on Mario 3?"

...That's what I did.

And here it is.

You went a wee bit overboard on the items, especially weapon energy and weapons.

It's a bit strange that you can go up on the side walls, like the one with the yashichi and the background.

You're right, Korby. I'll cut back on the weapons and the energies.

The side walls are actually something extra-like a secret path. Finding the Rush Coil allows you to go up to a secret place and get special weapons. The background is just something extra.

I'm going to summarize my thoughts on this:

- Didn't like the flow. Areas should always have more than one way to exit them, and the paths shouldn't be so narrow. There's also this place with a ladder and a pit. I jumped right in thinking it was a floor and died.
- Pickups and weapons in excess, most notably where Rain Flush is.
- The textures were handled terribly. I'm especially looking at that one with Mario jumping at the goal, though the empty block walls are also of note.
- The pipes are wafer thin. Make them into actual walls.

Well, at least it's not a square over another square this time. Keep practicing.

Also, don't hide things. It's bad mapping practice. (The Time Stopper, M Tank, Exit Unit area)

Edit: I say that as I discover the etank location
