Although, for those with small monitor sizes and resolutions, they might need to scroll back to the left and to the right just to see the rest of the video on the new small size.

Also, what if some guy is watching a video on YouTube when he's not supposed to? He'd be caught red handed so easily.
(I know that in this hypothetical situation, the guy brought it upon himself, but still, that's a dick move in my book, Google.)

I don't care much about player sizes myself, but this has inconvenienced some who do.

Seriously though... "Theater Mode" is a stupid name for a screen size that just has black bars at the side. It's impractical.

Hell, lots of popular websites and services seem to be getting less and less practical and down-to-earth with each update issued. But we get used to it eventually, and when we do, they think that what they've done is in the right direction, so they continue down that path of impracticality.

wot m8? Your resolution would have to be around the size of a screen of a phone to not be able to accommodate a youtube video. Even if you did have that shitty of a screen, ctrl + (=) or ctrl + (-) can make the site larger or smaller.

yeah because the whole idea of youtube it to be discrete.

It's a "light's off" button. If you prefer a darker view, and dislike fullscreen mode, this is right up your alley. Or if you're like me, you use the option because it centers the video on your screen. It isn't impractical, it's a fucking option.

If the changes implemented were truly impractical, wouldn't people still be complaining about the changes made long ago? You say that the changes are bad with no reasoning to back them up besides "they're bad", then you stop complaining about them once you've "gotten used to them". This isn't a matter of impracticality, it's matter of you not liking change.

I usually disagree with Bikdark entirely, but here I say "You win against your foe, good sir".

Seriously, though, those points are 100% valid and I still don't get why people keep bitching about YT's changes. I mean, seriously, most of these changes are for the better!

Well, Bikdark, gonna have to agree with 'ya a bit since most your points are valid and I do hate sudden changes of pace (who doesn't from time to time?).

I still find it impractical to release updates prematurely.
Lookin' at a few of YouTube's past updates, like the new comment system integrating the terribad G+ which everyone bitched about its broken-ness until everything got settled again.

Also, I think the reason people bitch about the updates so much is that it comes without warning or news. They ought to release a video or news post featuring the changelog with each new update then front-page it or something.

The updates just happen, and when it does, people are shocked, dazed and driven to unwarranted anger.

Hey! Listen!
Just open Youtube videos in separate windows and adjust the video size by adjusting the window size! Normal mode auto-scales!
Ironically, the new normal is pretty much exactly the same as the old normal for me.

I'd also like to point out this screen resolution update has not happened for the region I'm in.

Either it's that or Geno has her browser zoomed in or out or something.

No, it can't be just me, as both Jdude and Bikdark both clearly stated (Bikdark less so) that the change effected them.
Since Jdude's is the clearest example, I'm only putting what he said.

Geno, we have it here in the states too.
(Plus, I always have my browsers zoomed at 100%)

Also, just saying, but

That makes sense, and I see how that could be useful for someone, but it's just odd how it doesn't actually cover the whole screen with the blackness, making "lights off" just seem like "black bars".

Although why they didn't have the old size options enabled with the cinema mode, I'll never know.
It's not like adding an extra button would be THAT hard, right?

How impractical of them.

Well hopefully, they'll patch that up...

... or not.

Hey, I hear Google+ is going to be shut down soon.
