I have noticed this as well but only on the mobile version. On the pc, it still says my channel name. As for comments, I never really comment on videos. Whenever I see a video I like I just like it and place it in a video playlist. Also I never knew you could rearrange videos in your playlists.

So I go to change my YouTube channel icon.
It tells me I have to do it on Google Plus.
Okay then. I change it there.
It says that it may take a few minutes to change
SEVERAL HOURS LATER

It hasn't (-_-)

Although it changed just fine if I look at my dashboard.
And the (mostly inaccessible, unusable) photos list in YouTube lists the new icon and the old icon too.
And it's fine on Google Plus as well.

Oh well, I'll just have to look in 12 hours, maybe that's long enough for YouTube to process a simple image replacement. (>_<)

EDIT: Oh, and also, I already tried logging out and logging in again, switching between accounts (which Google believes I need 3...), and CHANGING THE ICON 3 TIMES NOW.
On all the websites I'm on, I have changed to this icon (which I can't not use, help). YouTube is (and was) the only one that is putting up a fight to do it, and the only one that HASN'T changed!

Apparently the latest theme of all major software/websites is to make their product as confusing, annoying and impractical as possible. Look at Windows 8, 8.1, Google+ for reference.

The icons for Google Plus/Youtube are different; I learned that the hard way.
Basically I have a google plus account but it doesn't do anything for my youtube account/isn't even related to my youtube account.
It just sits there saying I need it when I really don't.
So yea whenever I want to change my icons I have to do it for both my google account AND my youtube account, as they're separate things.

Well, the fact that YouTube doesn't even allow for modifying an icon on YouTube itself means I can't change at all.

These cases depend, seeing as someone has connected their account with their Google+ page.

If you haven't connected your account, then you have 2 user icons to worry about; if you had connected your account, then that means you'll only have 1, unless you created more pages. The other pages have their own usericons, but the one with your channel and your Google+ page will have only one. It takes a long freakin' time for YouTube to change to whatever you chose for Google+.

Whoever came up with this "intelligent" idea needs to be sacked. It's awfully impractical and just plain stupid.

SERIOUSLY.

What is up with software companies making their products' interfaces all buggy and hard to navigate? What the ever-loving-fuck happened to simple GUIs?!

Is it some industry standard? Who's paying them to do this? Have they lost faith in their customers all of a sudden? Have they gone to a power trip and realized that they can dominate the world by making people heed their will and bend to it? These products don't give the user control. They control the user.

Well the more you complain about it, the less logical your complaints seem to be...

Seriously, if you think about it, Google is a database that is quickly becoming one of, if not already the largest in the world. Do you honestly expect two parts of the database that are saved independently to update instantly and simultaneously every time a single user changes their icon? No, that doesn't sound very logical.
As for the multitude of Google+ pages, a person has to make more than one Google account to do that, so it would make sense that they would have separate icons, being a user of Youtube from around the time when Google first purchased it, my account was linked to begin with and I had no problem with the changes to Youtube.

I do understand the complaint about navigation difficulty, when I went to change my Google password, I had to take some back door because there isn't really an option for it.

bump

YouTube updated again.

At least for Canada. Dunno 'bout anyone else.

They changed the video window size things. The new "small" size is the same as the old "large" size, and the new "large" size is just the new "small" size with bars on the sides of it.

new small
(click to show/hide)

new large
(click to show/hide)

Notice the old size icons still being present, and the use of pointless bars in the "large" image

youtube why

yes i had to use that sm64 64dd one, on account that it's cool

wait, what does "how to eat fruit" have to do with an amazing gaming discovery???

Instead of mindlessly assuming it's the new "large", take a second to mouse over the buttons and read the text.

"default view" and "theater mode"

Yeah, well I as only referring to it as "small" and "large" because that's what it was replacing.
(Although to be fair, I didn't really make that clear in my post)
(Also, for some reason, the mouse hover-over text thing wasn't working for me at that time for some reason, works now though)
It's actually "cinema mode"
Also, just saying, but just saying that I was being "mindless" like that really bothers me, cause I wasn't.
Just was that the mouse-over text for that button wasn't working at the time that I posted.
Would there have been a possible way for you to word it to sound, I dunno, nicer?

Still, replacing a size change feature with a seemingly useless black bars feature is still dumb.
And removing the old default size is equally pointless. I actually preferred the small one over the large one!

As long as you can still watch the video, that is all I need and what everyone else needs. Not bloody size changes for the video.
