Youtube Copyright Controversy.
« on: December 18, 2013, 05:57:42 PM »
Many of you have probably heard of Youtube cracking down again on copyrights, mostly affecting gaming channels, network based and non networked based. Most disturbingly, this change allows any copyright enforcement company to automatically search videos for content, then flag the video for a copyright claim if it "violates" a copyright by using content without permission. Even if it's a few seconds of a clip of something, it can and will result in a claim. This, of course, is leading to trouble. Many gaming channels suddenly found themselves with copyright claims that were automatically claimed by Google and other 3rd parties. Angry Joe found himself with over 60 claims on some of his most viewed videos immediately after the copyright changes went into effect, and on his claims, it shows what copyright it violates, and it got quite ridiculous. His live interview with Tomb Raider got a copyright claim for using content from Tomb Raider, even though the people from tomb raider were fine with it. The penalty for these copyright claims are to pay a fine to the copyright holders, then carry on as if nothing happened.

This topic has been all over Kotaku, Youtube, and other sites, and I must say, I really think Youtube is starting to take a turn for the worst. I opened this topic up for discussion on the subject, so feel free to state your opinions here.
