I feel that the best of these is Freon.

Freon has an interesting playstyle: Support/Assassin. She can sneak around in stealth, stun and slow her foes, and set traps. She's not rediculously overpowered, she's just fun and simple yet interesting.

Adara's a good one, but I haven't played as her enough.
Weavile's cool too, but it's not an original concept

.. Now, Ice Mage and Neo Weo Ice were just awful. Ice Mage is so overpowered that it's not even funny, while Neo Weo isn't even ice themed and has to wait ages to attack again.

You wouldn't mind having a 1-3 day editing phase for the contestants, would you?

I'm certain I can't be the only one who really wants to make a few edits to my class.

Quote from: "Some Nerd"
So here's how this is gonna go down. Since there are three judges and since Cold Fusion likes having weird opinions, it would likely be impossible to agree on a single winner for the gold purple 1st Place medal. Instead, we're judging similarly to how Mario Kart awards points in races. You can afford to flub up a race completely, but if you finish strong in the other races you can very well find yourself walking away with a trophy in the end!

- A judge ranks three classes in order of preference. The judge's first pick gets 3 points, their second pick gets 2 points, and their third pick gets a single point.
- All the points are added up, and the grand winner walks away with... THE CUTSTUFF BLACKSMITH MEDAL!
- 2nd and 3rd place (out of all nominees) walk away with shiny silver CUTSTUFF BLACKSMITH RUNNER-UP medals!
- In the event of a tie, three medals will still be given out in total. If two classes snag the gold purple, then only one runner-up silver will be given out. The exception is in the incredibly slim chance of three classes getting 2nd place (which could very well happen), but that's not going to feasibly be a thing ever and I'm just planning out for ridiculous circumstances.

Without further adieu, the winners of the first annual cutstuff horserasing competition first Cutstuff Community Classes Contest, Ice Ice Baby, are....

Thank you all so very much for participating in this contest, and congratulations to those who won medals! I hope you'll join the next one as well, and I hope you had fun! I promise the theme won't be nearly as aesthetic next time ;D!

Congratulations to Rui! Quite happy to see them win, although I wasn't quite expecting it because I wasn't sure if the class was intuitively ice-themed enough. I assisted Rui with the class (made most of the skin and gave a couple of pointers), and I'm really happy to see it have nice reception. Rui did a super job!

Many thanks for granting me second place (just one point behind Rui, dern). I'm also happy to see my class receive such great reception, and I had a ton of fun making it. However, I really must give credit where it is due: King Yamato (super great guy) did 99.9% of the coding on this class. I just worked the sprites, concepts and sounds. I wouldn't have been able to do this all on my own. I owe it to him! Also thanks to Gizmo and Celebi for doing a little bit of playtesting with my class and offering feedback.

This contest was a lot of fun and I'd be happy to participate in future ones like it. I got a decent amount of practice and insight from this event (and I made a brand new character that I kind of like). Thanks again!

Thanks to everyone who submitted classes! Even if you didn't make the top three, you all provided us with some entertainment and some really interesting class designs!

Congratulations to Rui for your first place finish! Who knew singing and ice could fit together so well? I'll be looking forward to see her in action in CSCC!

Congratulations to Kapus for your second place finish! Freon was certainly an interesting class and I'd love to see her fixed up and added to CSCC as well!

An honorable mention should go out to Woohoo and his spectacular Weavile class that almost made the runner-up position! Sorry, man, but Uki's siege tank mechanics made the choice kind of hard, and I ultimately ended up going with him. If I had another third place slot, you would have gone right in with him!

Special thanks to JaxOf7 and his Frost Walrus for reviving my interest in making Cutstuff All-Stars Racing!

Special thanks to Daveregis for reminding us how it's easy to make a class too complicated and situational without realizing it! If you are going to submit this to CSCC, I'd recommend making the item trigger a bit easier to understand by making its range a little less oddly specific. Otherwise, it's not bad overall; it just needs a little fine-tuning!

Special thanks to Lego for reminding us how not every idea works out as intended on the first try! Bozu was certainly an interesting concept, so I'm sorry to see that it didn't exactly work out well in practice. A bit of work and some more testing, and he could turn into something awesome!

Special thanks to Wengar for somehow making a class that both does and doesn't fit the theme, and reminding us that you don't need to spam to make a class that's at least playable! I would prefer if you actually stuck to the theme a bit more closely, though. The Cat Planet shenanigans made the class a little hard to take seriously.

Special thanks to KirbySonic1 and his Ice Mage class for reminding us why charge times are a dangerous toy to play with. Word of Advice: Instakills should be reserved for weapons that require a bit more effort to use, and having to run around for 7 seconds doesn't exactly excuse that. Keep trying; class design is an art form that takes a little bit of trial and error!

Congratulations everyone! I'm happy to see you both up there, Rui and Kapus. I really enjoyed playing as both of your classes, and I was glad to help test them.

I can't wait for the next contest: I'm gonna at least try to make one next time!

Frozen Capella Ninja Rap is still the best team combo ever. *fist bump*

Rui's class really deserved it. To me it felt like it was easy to understand without being too shallow and it had interesting ideas behind it.
So ... congratulations, Rui!

My top 3 was a top 2

#1: Freon

#2: Adara

#3: I don't even know

_____________

I didn't even know that some people got in this without coding knowledge-- trying that sounds like something you would get backlash for.

I had an idea (though it surely wouldn't win) that I'd not be able to do a thing with, so I jumped out early.

Anyway, Freon's issues are actually just minor things that can easily be fixed.

You just need to make her weapons recharge at the same time, but just make the selected one go faster if you want to keep that theme. Also, no cloak break on weapon switch.

That contest sure was a doozy, forgetting about it until literally an hour before the deadline I quickly threw open Slade and thus Weo Weo Ice was born. If I wasn't so rushed, granted, I would've change a few things with it. But overall it was a learning experience to know that Ice Mage is literally the most broken thing in the world and in team LMS I held right click to full charge let go and killed everyone. Literally, everyone. Rui's class certainly deserved the win, however to me it didn't feel as icy as some of the other classes. It felt more like a ghost type thing, even with the crowd controlling abilities and such I still thought it felt more ghosty than icy! I hope to participate in the next competition to add to my Weo Weo collection.

I still think Weo Weo Ice should've won hue

I personally think the winner could have come from any four between a pool of Davregis, Mech Unit 'B', Adara Mozes, and Freon. Most of the others just felt off.

I would very well push for Davregis to be at least re-examined, despite its oversights. It's a vastly more versatile class than most of the entrants here, as well as a rather simple one to learn and one very easily assisted by player input. It's also one of the only classes here I felt had a distinct strength in a certain area (this being an exceptional aerial fighter with the item use to propel you upwards and your main fire to chain stuff in the air and further on your landing with the machine gun).

Nevertheless, congratulations, Rui!

Hi my name is SmashBro and I'm gonna get all super overbearing up in here.

It has come to my attention that some of you are upset with my class (Mech Unit ?) winning the third place medal. Some of these complaints stem from my position as one of the contest judges, and some of these complaints are based on her "not being an ice class". Of course, not everyone will see eye-to-eye, which was sort of the point of using the point system we decided on to award medals. Some people like certain classes more than others. Some people love a class others can't stand. That's totally normal and is supposed to happen, and if you don't feel the same way as the judgements, I'd be welcome to hear your arguments. However, what I can't stand is when certain people run around on servers (including the one I'm hosting and can totally read the backlog from) and insult me, my class, and my decisions on the sly, thinking they can get away with it. You know who you are.

The two main arguments, while somewhat valid, would still not change the situation that much. Me being a judge has nothing to do with what the other two judges think. Since a judge can't vote for themselves as first pick, if the other two judges didn't like my class I wouldn't have gotten a medal to begin with. On the flip side of the coin, if I wasn't a judge I still feel confident that I would have been awarded a medal. The two people I talked to who could have been potential judges both liked Mech Unit ?, and would have placed her in their top three, which means she still would have won something. If a judge couldn't vote for themselves at all, then that basically screws a judge's class out of winning 1st Place and therefore discouraging them from even entering, which goes against the whole point of the competition. The idea here is to learn some things you didn't before, have fun making a class, and share your ideas with others in a fun setting while also having the chance to win a neat prize. I thought it would be relatively enjoyable for most people, but I suppose you can't please absolutely everyone.

The other argument, that Mech Unit ? isn't necessarily an ice class, could be said about literally every class that isn't named Freon (and Davy Jones, though he was already established in CSCC as "that ice dragon guy"). Bozu throws fields of spikes up. Or, if you want to be unique, they could be pillars of fire like Flame Blast. Adara sings people into submission. Weo Weo Ice shoots Cat Planet cats at you. Vanilla Ice has a shotgun that turns into a sniper turret. Hell, Weavile (who is literally a half-Ice-type Pokémon) only has one real "ice" attack, which is hardly ever seen due to requiring having Swords Dance set up, which in itself has a 50% chance of dropping after the player scores three frags in a single life. His Ice Shard move is extremely weak and mostly ends up overshadowed by Fury Swipes and Night Slash thanks to Weavile's incredible movement speed... which makes it easier to connect with the melee attacks and sort of renders Ice Shard a moot point. The move being named Swift and shooting little stars would make no difference than it shooting out the little ice bits like he currently does.

I mean for fuck's sake, we ended up with two Sword Men. An ice theme doesn't really have as many restrictions as, say, needing to have a homing attack, or requiring a move that enhances other moves. Besides applying some form of slow to attacks, there really isn't any way to say "this is an ice move" other than to color the sprites blue and use crystalline sound effects for everything. Ice is a largely aesthetic theme, so what counts as an ice class and what doesn't count as an ice class is largely debatable, and for the most part if a class had an attack that at least "felt" ice-like we let it slide and moved on. The classes were judged on what was creative and felt fun, both to use and to fight against, and our determinations were made as a group. I didn't want to vote for myself at first, but then Cold Fusion picked Ukiyama's Vanilla Ice, and I honestly didn't enjoy that class very much. I felt like I would be lying to myself and to the contestants if I gave him the point, so I sided with Korby and chose Mech Unit ? so we could still give out three medals and not end up with a three-way tie for third.

So what am I trying to say here? To be honest, I'm not even sure myself. I'm not necessarily trying to defend my medal, though it may come across as that. No, rather I'm trying to say that we did our best as judges, and the idea here was to have fun with the whole process. If you don't agree with us, fine. If you think I cheated, I've apparently failed to smack some sense into you, so have fun with that. What I'm upset about is with people sneaking around and talking shit behind my back. If you disagree with me, if you hate me, if you want to curse my first-born son, at least have the balls to say it to my face.

With that out of the way, I'd like to end on a somewhat positive note. I said this in the judging stream, but I'll say it again here: I'd like to personally thank everyone who entered the competition, no matter how unfinished or completely busted your class was. Even my least favorite classes in the pack managed to generate some interesting responses, and I had fun trying them all and seeing what everyone came up with. I hope you feel the same, regardless of how well you did in the end, and I'd love to see some more great entries for the second Cutstuff Annual Horse Racing Competition!

Yeah that's right, we're doing this again! You better work hard, or you won't have a leg to stand on!
