Far superior to this one. It was a balanced map and I see absolutely nothing wrong with it. The layout wasn't boring and it was simple and enjoyable for just about every game mode. Yes, even possession.

I think not. The previous MM1FIR was very small, and was full of gimmicks that just weren't good for its size. Namely, fire traps, lava and teleporters. The first one was aggravating with what little space there already was to run around in, as when going up the stairs from below, there were two options. Risk going through a fire trap and take damage, or hit the dead end to the side to get a power weapon.
The placement of lava was no less painful, either. Maneuvering in the area those two rectangles of death were in was difficult, which often forced players to take the fight to either the cramped hallways or down below. Then finally, the teleporter room and their destinations. I don't think I need to say how much of a camp spot that is, and even then, the execution of teleporters in the map felt wrong because of how short their relative distances were.

to this, please keep the current map. Although I have some things to say about the new map, that is an entirely separate matter. The old MM1FIR was cramped, full of danger and just not fun in general.

I'm personally neutral to Fire Man changes, but if you're going to collect public opinion, you could always put up a poll.
It's easy to manipulate, sure, but it generally collects public opinion more easily than writing out a full description of your opinion.

The Fire Man change is really my only issue with the map changes in v4. Most people talk about Centaur, Wind, and even the new ones for being too big but I'm fine with them as they had flaws with the original map, or the new ones I have no qualms with (Magic). Small Fire Man seemed like a fine small map that I have never had a problem with. At most I can understand doing something about that buster teleporter room as it's kinda dumb, but besides that it was a fine map.
I don't hate the new map as there's nothing wrong with it, but it just seemed like a pointless change while the other map changes had better reason.

I like the new map more and I can always just see the old map in the Legacy Pack. No big deal.

New Fire Man, to me, is just "that map from the compo (?)" and I mean it's a good map and all, but it's pretty bland.
And clusterfucks on the old Fire Man were kinda fun to me...
So I think I'm just gonna say
+1
Also, has the Legacy Pack ever been hosted?

The flow of MM1FIR pre-v4 was utter garbage and the weapon selection only made things a frustrating clusterfuck. I'm pleased with the new one.

I'm only just checking the new maps, and I can already tell that the flow of the map feels better. I'm kind of surprised that people liked the old map so much. But, because this topic exists, I'll just post my score and get back to seeing the new maps.

Go get Legacy to add the old map in if you want it back so badly.

Ah, pre V4 MM1FIR. That old map is certainly a classic. Small and compact, it was a veteran of many versions undergoing almost no changes from its introduction, apart from a few weapon changes in V2 and V3. It was host to hectic and fast-paced matches with very strong weapons present- Rolling Cutter was a monster at the top room, Scorch Wheel could rip up opponents in the pit from the ramp, Hyper Bomb could lead to a couple of amusing frags by spamming it from the two towers down on preoccupied victims, and the unpredictable Eddie was also present. One of the problems the map suffered from, however, was its virtual inability to hold any more than roughly 8-10 players in a match. The map quickly gets choked when large amounts of players are present, and the fact that such powerful weapons are on the map leads to quickly ended matches and a lot of frustration. It seems to be the main trend for maps now is to cater to Deathmatch purposes, and the new MM1FIR certainly meets these demands.
...Wait a second, what? Deathmatch isn't played often anymore? You're serious?
This seems to be a constant problem I see with updated maps, and MM1FIR is virtually the poster-child of this. MM8BDM was never known for a strong Deathmatch-oriented player base. The new versions do give vanilla DM a resurgence in popularity for (at most) two weeks before Duel and LMS take over once again, often with mods added on in the case of the latter. Is the old MM1FIR good for Deathmatch? Hell no, the map was small, cramped, and very hard to move around with plenty of people playing in it- but you have to realize that Deathmatch is not a very popular mod anymore. MM1FIR was a perfect place for smaller matches and Duels, which make up a large majority of the populated servers after the new version DM resurgence dies down.
And you have to look at the other maps you updated. MM6CEN, MM6WIN, MM4DUS, MM4BRI, MM6PLA- all of these maps have been improved upon in varying states of severity. The problem is, with a couple of them, you're erasing maps that were still good for smaller matches (citing MM4DUS and MM6PLA more or less for these), and the new maps that are coming out don't even come close to the size of the older ones- which are more suitable for the smaller matches that are usually on servers. The new MM1FIR and the MM&B expansion maps do not fill the size guidelines for smaller matches or Duel very well, further shaving off the already small number of maps suited for such matches.
If you're going to make maps bigger in future expansions, you can't make all of the small ones fit the system if they're occupying a vital niche in MM8BDM.
+1
for old MM1FIR.

Old fire felt cramped and uncomfortable
This fire feels better and makes me not want to "Spectate do something else until the match is over"

Also Legacy Pack is a thing, it's not like the map is permanently gone.

Although I didn't mind old Fire Man stage, the new one is much better IN MY OPINION.
Less dead ends, and not as easy to complete. In the old stage, all you'd have to do in Single Player to complete the match is go up where H.Bomb(?) was and throw them down at all the bots that have gathered in that pit area.
With the new one, there's much less of that, which makes it slightly more difficult. (which, again, IN MY OPINION, is good.)
Yeah, so
-1
I guess.
Seriously guys, if it really bugs you, go eat the Legacy Pack or somethin'.

I'm gonna have to say -1 to old fire. The new map looks more pleasing, better flow, more room to actually fight. And legacy is a thing.
