Hardest Wily Castle Stages Boss?
« on: May 28, 2014, 06:36:13 PM »
What do you think is the hardest Boss in all of the Wily Castles, and why?

For me, it would have to be a close tie between the Boobeam Trap from Mega Man 2 I hate that thing so much. That is why I barely play Mega Man 2 and the Wily Capsule from Mega Man 7 I couldn't beat that thing without using savestates ^^; Why, you ask? For the Boobeam Trap, you get just enough Crash Bomb to destroy it, and if you lose to it you have to grind for weapon energy which could take a little while or it could take forever!

For the Wily Capsule, Wild Coil is the only weapon which does the most damage and if you run out, you have to use your W-Tanks. After you use all of your W-Tanks, you have to die so you can refill the weapon energy for Wild Coil

Wild Coil is not a requirement for Wily Capsule 7. Freeze Cracker (and I think Thunder Bolt) also do damage to it. Not as much, but it's safer and still gets the job done.

The Yellow Devil from the first Mega Man game will always put up a good fight whenever I play, mostly due to the game's slippery physics giving me a difficult time dodging. I can get the pattern down pretty easily though (I think it's actually burned into my brain at this point) so if I just have patience I can usually deal with him.

On the other hand, the Block Devil from MM10 always gives me a lot of trouble because I can never remember the pattern for it no matter how many times I play. I'm not sure why. Every time I start that boss I just kind of stand around like a moron and get hit.

I haven't played MM8 in a while, but I remember the fortress bosses there being super annoying the last time I played. That accursed bag worm thing particularly comes to mind.

I believe the original Yellow Devil from Mega Man 1 is very hard due to its transition pattern, but if you learn its transition pattern,it becomes very easy. The Yellow Devil becomes even easier if you abuse a glitch in the game.If you pause, the game deletes the previous hit stun and creates new hit stun. You keep doing that and you win by using only one projectile.

You mean Atetemino? I had problems with him too.

Hmmm..

MM1: CWU-01P (Dodging the thing is rather difficult, ESPECIALLY when/if there are no Super Arm blocks to stand on. Also, if you die AFTER using the Super Arm blocks, you're pretty much screwed, as the final few ones go so fast you can only get, like, ONE Mega Buster shot at it until it moves away.
MM2: Boobeam Trap (Although I found a good, life-wasting strategy is to just focus on eliminating the Crash Bomber walls first, die, refill C. Bomber, then go fight it again.)
MM3: Yellow Devil MK. II (For some reason, I find this boss harder to dodge than the MM1 version. Probably because of that attack where a whole column of YD bits squishes down into one bit and bounces around.)
And, if Doc Robots count, Wood Man Doc Robot is a pain.
MM4: Haven't beaten it yet
MM5: Only ever played through the Dark Man Castle. I think I remember Dark Man 3 being annoying though, what with his stun shots
MM6: Haven't beaten it yet. Although I distinctly remember getting stuck at the first Mr X castle boss (the giant dinosaur thing, unless that was 5's Wily castle)
MM7: Wily Capsule
MM8: Haven't beaten it yet (Laggy HD TV + snowboard sections = oh dear)
HOWEVER, I HAVE played through RM8FC, and I have to say that any fortress boss that wasn't Bass or the Wily Machine was a pain.
MM9: Haven't beaten it yet
MM10: I have beaten it, but I pretty much forgot what the fortress bosses were like
MM&B: Every fortress boss that ISN'T King Plane (King Tank's bombs suck, that Monking that is with Atetemino Proto is a pain, as well as the lava pits in the boss room, and King himself is annoying. With King, you aren't even given enough shots with his weakness to beat him!)
Although I haven't gotten past King yet
MMWW: The Buster Rod G rematch (The falling platforms thing is cool, however you can clearly tell that CAPCOM's method of doing it must have pushed the limits of the Mega Drive, as that boss fight has CONSTANT LAG. At least you can jump through the bottoms of the platforms)
MMGB (all 5 GB games): Although I haven't played IV or V, I think the MMII Wily Machine is hardest (While they all have easy to understand attack patterns, MMII's one has THREE phases. Not to mention it's the only part of MMII where I actually NEED to use E Tanks. Additionally, it's weakness, Sakugarne, is sadly too terrible to be useful I can go through the game without using it at all)

I personally think the first phase of the Mega Man 9 Wily Machine is ludicrously hard, but then again my accuracy needs some serious assistance, so I'm probably alone here. I just can't hit those eggs right. After that, the fight becomes really easy, but I always dread the first phase.

I could be remembering incorrectly, but doesn't Thunder Beam make short work of these things?

Actually, no, not really. (which is odd, considering, y'know, the whole water + electricity = dead fish thing?)

Sure, it hits multiple times, and I guess one COULD use the [SELECT] glitch to make it real easy, but using one Thunder Beam while it is going left along the ground has the same effect as rapidly shooting Mega Buster shots at it in the same situation.
Plus, if one's saving those Super Arm blocks for the last 4 ones, finding places to effectively use T. Beam without destroying any of the blocks is real hard.

Also, Rolling Cutter hits multiple times too, although it almost does NO damage at all! This odd lack-of-damage trait is present in all the MM! fortress bosses (except possibly Copy Robot)

CWU-01P is particularly nasty in Powered Up, where it also has a laser and drops Super Arm blocks from the ceiling. There's also much less room to navigate.

And if you're playing as Fire Man...

Because I don't focus on pattern memorization when I play games, I find Yellow Devil insanely difficult to defeat, and this is when using "Thunder" Beam. If I focused a little more on that pattern I probably wouldn't have the trouble, but I don't see that happening tbh.

Buebeam trap deserves an honourable mention. The difficulty is just stress in disguise, but it still feels appropriate, even though it's all just fake difficulty.

Hardest Wily Machine for me has to be the one in Megaman 9. That was the first Megaman game I played and the first Wily Machine I fought, yet I still find it the hardest, especially when minimizing myself to not using E tanks and special weapons and all that.

It took me a while to beat him on Normal ^^;

I thought the twin devil in 9 was harder than the wilysaurus.  If you don't know to stand right in the center it becomes insanely hard to dodge things coming from both sides at once.

Any boss with the word "devil" in it is hard

Yellow Devil (Mega Man 1)
Yellow Devil Mk. 2 (Mega Man 3)
Green Devil (Mega Man 8, Mega Man and Bass)
Twin Devil (Mega Man 9)
Block Devil (Mega Man 10)
Shadow Devil (Mega Man X5)

Artetemino from Mega Man 8 is hard!My first time encountering this wormbag was after I FINALLY get past the level. This boss is hard and its weakness...Why did it have to be weak to the MEGA BALL!?
