Ghouls vs Humans - Capture The Fallen RELEASED
« on: September 16, 2010, 09:20:29 AM »
While I impatiently wait for Skulltag to get the fix for the morphing issues, I've created a new expansion which is much smaller and literally took about 30 minutes to make. This time, we're going in a completely different direction though:

This title should be a little more explanatory than GVH:RE though:

Yes, this is essentially CTF but with a twist to make things a little more fair. Basically the flags are replaced with orbs containing souls of your fallen comrades. The idea of the game is to steal the opposite team's soul with a little help from your friends, exactly like in CTF. However once you take the opposing team's soul, you become a ghost. The ghost plays physically just like a regular doom marine, but with no attacks. This means that if you want to have a shot at capturing the soul, you'll most likely need help from your team mates to get back to your soul safe. When you capture the soul, you die and respawn like normal.

The idea came from a while back when some goof balls tried GVH CTF out, and obviously it was unbalanced as heck. Sjas could simply fly over the whole map, grab the flag and fly back over with ease. In this mode, you can't do that because you become a ghost. I believe that this change alone could make GVH CTF playable, and enjoyable. Not to mention, because the ghost can't attack it involves a lot more teamwork!

Hmm... I could try making a map for this, possibily. A CTF map seems less... Difficult to put together then trying to make an balanced GVH map in general. Well, atleast i got an idea for a CTF map stuck in my mind.
Edit: The theme, atleast, the layout is an entirely other story. :P

Maybe i could make one after you release it, or i could try and make it and you could include it as some sort of sample map if you want, perhaps, though in such a case i cannot guarantee how long it will take, aside trying to finish it as fast as possible but while still keeping it bug-free. :P

Edit2: Hmm... Then again, making a good map takes quite some time, maybe just to make it as an loose addon for the thing if i can actually make and finish a map.

btw that turning into a ghost thing, humans can miss easy but ghouls are melee. Why not make 2 different ghosts depending if your humanghoul?

Hmm... In the testing period it didnt seem too neccesary to change the ghosts. Though i can understand if its rather... bad if a ghost can outrun all the melee ghouls. Perhaps the ghost should be a tad faster then creeper if they're stealing the ghoul's souls.

Aside that i'd say the ghost that steals from humans is fine, have some teamwork to take down the shooters, make sure to use any cover, and most importantly on any side, teamwork!

Hmm... I do recall strategic use of the map tends to help, so changes arent that needed it seems. And apparently i sent you way more screenshots then you needed, heh. :P

Yeah, it can be difficult to get a good shot of the action cause it happens so fast!

I made the ghosts a little slower, fixed the imp hands appearing in the floor and fixed respawning with the flag. Any more problems before I release v4?

Hey Cutman,
yes there is a problem.
every time I play this gvh ctf there's a message saying:
Script error, "gvhctf-v3.wad:DECORATE" line 121:
Replaced type 'SawSpike' not found in SawSpike2
any way of fixing this?
what wad/pk3 files do I need to play this?
