Fan-Game Playthrough Vote

Hello everyone! As some of you may or may not know, I do a series of playthroughs on my YouTube channel generally involving fan-games of varying quality. I recently hit my 1,000 Subscriber mark, and I wanted to do something special for the occasion. As such, I'm letting others vote on what I should do next in terms of my overall playthroughs. The vote will last for one week (starting from now on the 16th up to the 23rd). At the end of the poll, I'll play the top 3 games with the most votes. Check the video for a bit more information and footage of the initial fan-game list I compiled. I'll be taking votes from both here and my channel into account.

Note: I will be taking suggestions for other games to play, but there's a few that I've either already done or can't/won't do for various reasons.

[Games I probably won't consider playing]
Super Danny 1: Simplest reason in the world - Super Danny Powered Up is a more refined version of this game, and it would therefore be redundant to include the outdated one.

Super Mega Man 1 and 2: Even compared to Super Mega Man 3, both of these games are virtually unplayable (I'd go as far as to say they outclass Origins in terms of how broken they are).

Star Man/Star Man Upgraded: Another game I find to be unplayable, though more-so for the way its mechanics are set up. Star Man's primary attack in this game is so dreadful, it's somehow even worse than the version Mega Man gets in the original MM5. If this version were a stand-alone weapon, it would come pretty close to the Time Bomb from Rockbot in terms of how awful it is. For me, it makes the game a complete nightmare to go through (the vertical scrolling combined with cheaply placed spikes doesn't help this game much either).

Mega Man X Eclipse Demo: This isn't to say I don't like the X series. In fact, I've been wanting to do some videos on it for a while now. For this fan-game however, a single stage demo isn't enough to warrant a video in my opinion.

Mega Man 25th Anniversary Demo: Same reason as with MMX Eclipse, as in that it's basically a demo with one full stage (even with two bosses, that still doesn't make up for what little there is here). That, and this is one of those games that automatically boots up in full-screen mode with no way to put it into a windowed format. I can't exactly record anything that does that (for now, anyways).

Mega Man Triple Threat Demo: Same reason as the last two. While the approach of using MM7's graphics are a neat change in this whole formula of fan-games, I still feel this doesn't have enough content to warrant a video (even with multiple characters, there's still only an intro stage and one main stage).

Novelty/Arcade-Styled Fan-Games: Any game that basically revolves around a high score, is made for the sake of a novelty purpose or gimmick, or outright can't be beaten. Kind of defeats the purpose of making a video for it.

I've cast my vote for Day in the Limelight. It's a fun twist on the fangames, and among the few on the list I've played.

Voting for the first Day in the Limelight as well. It's not as great as the sequel, but it's one of the few I've played as well.

Incidentally, have you ever considered playing Super Mario Bros. Crossover? Mega Man and Bass are playable characters in that, with each of them having tons of skins based on other Mega Man characters and other related stuff, and there are three level sets based on the entirety of the first Super Mario Bros. game, the obscure Japan only port Super Mario Bros. Special that appeared on the NEC-PC8801 and Sharp X1, and, of course, the brutal The Lost Levels. Not only that, but every single level also has a Easy and Hard version in addition to their default versions.

I have actually heard of and played that before. Doing an All-Mega Man or All-Bass run (or any of the alt-skins related to them) could prove to be interesting. Added to the suggestions list.

I really want to see all these games be played, but since (like most things) I can only pick one, I'd go with Mega Man Unlimited.

I find the game really enjoyable and fun to play, it really feels like an official game (except for a few areas)! It's a fan-game that might not be best for everyone, but I think you should at least give it a whirl.

Also, I noticed that the Hard Hat series isn't on the list. It's also a series I'd suggest you play. It's just basically in the perspective of a Metool (or a Hard Hat) who's tired of Wily's constant schemes for world domination. It's also another Mega Man fan-game series that's worth a try. After all, they're free!

Updated the suggestion list with a few recently mentioned games. In relation to the two suggested here, I have actually played a bit of Mega Man Dongs and Hard Hat 4 before (haven't really touched on 1 through 3, though they should be interesting from the look of things).

Ah, come now, boy!  I didn't have the patience to finish off Rockman Infinity 2's final boss (Making it the fourth fangame I've ragequit, unfortunately...), and even I could finish Star Man - Upgraded -.  The thing about it, though, is that it's inherently unlike a Mega Man game—since you'll be spending a lot of time locked in place, you have to make every move carefully and methodically, which makes boss battles in particular a pain.  Especially Jupiter.  Damn you, Jupiter...

Ah, well, I digress.  I cast a vote for Mega Pony.  Don't be turned off by the equine packaging; I assure you that the game inside is quite solid.
I also request that you play Shovel Kn—wait, never mind.  Two suggestions, actually:
If you want to suffer (And it seems to me you may want to sometimes, considering you've sought out and played some pretty terrible fangames), play Rockmen R:  Dr. Wily's Counterattack.  Yes, the infamous doujin game that Capricorn had the gall to sell—quite notorious, indeed.  You'll find that the original spirit of the Mega Man games is intact in terms of Robot design, weaponry, and boss battles, but the execution is exceedingly flawed.  Quite like some people complain about in MM8, Roll (The only playable character, hence the "R" after "Rockmen" in the title) feels very large, heavy, and awkward, some of the upgrades break the engine in the darnedest ways, and the level design is painful at times.  You can tell Capricorn was a big fan and he wanted to create a great Mega Man game, but he needed to study up on the things that really made Mega Man games great, like...solid level design.
If you want to be amazed, play Rockman 4 Minus Infinity.  This ROM hack will blow your mind with the things it can do.  Really.  It'll feel like you're playing a bizarre, awesome fangame on steroids.  I don't want to get too in-depth on the really cool stuff, but for starters, every boss enters a Rage Mode as they get low on health, there are completely new minibosses in nearly every stage, and Pharaoh-Man's stage has an exceedingly interesting gimmick.

In that case, then, what about a short slew of bite-sized fangames?  Mega Man vs. Metroid, Mega Man vs. Ghouls & Goblins, Green Biker Dude, maybe even a couple rounds of Quint's Bomb Rush over at Sprites, Inc.

Speaking of Inc., should Mega Man's Christmas Carol win out, please don't play the original version.  A couple years ago, ACE made Christmas Carol Remix, which, like SuperDanny Powered Up, is an updated version of the game with bug fixes, balance tweaks, and...a couple new bosses, actually.  Play that instead; it's superior in every way.

In terms of some of the suggestions:

I've heard about Rockmen R before, and I've seen a few gameplay videos of it, but I've never really played it before. I also heard that it's not exactly a freeware game (eg, I think Capricorn was selling the game, and was therefore illegal on his/her part). If I can find a random download for it, I might try it out, but it's no guarantee.

As for some of the other ones, I heard of Green Biker Dude before, though I've never actually played it. Hopefully it's not exactly like Quint's Bomb Rush. As stated in the outlines, I want to avoid arcade-styled games/ones that go on forever (which I believe QBR fits into the category of). Also, I know about the earlier version of Mega Man's Christmas Carol. For the purposes of this list, I'll be playing the Remix version (which is the one shown off in the video, actually).

Out of all the games on the list, Limelight 2 is probably the best one, but to get to 2, you should probably do the first one even though it's not as polished.
Though it's still better than half the list.
