The Sniper Joes from the first Megaman game immediately come to mind, and are one of the most underrated enemy types in any game in my opinion. It actually felt like they wanted to protect the enemy side and if you chose to try ignoring them, they demanded a proper battle.

Later on they made the Joe enemies kinda lame. Pattern based and easy to take down. People hating on the original Sniper Joes, aka a great enemy type, is one of the reasons we don't get nice things.

Actually, I fully agree with this! I like when enemies seem clever without being bosses.

I also like "elite mooks" in old FPS games, like the shotgunners and chaingunners in Doom, and the Enforcers in Quake. They're like the "strongest enemies in the lowest tier".

About bosses, the mm8 campaign boss in 8bdm is one of the best bosses i've seen. Actually, it IS the best boss i've seen in FPS, IMO. (not to mention most bosses in FPS' are only fought by taking cover or straferunning)

I've edited this post like 5 times, lol.

-You will never get to Flash Man's Room!
*destroys Joe's Sniper Armor and jumps him over while he's covering*
-Hey, come back here!

I don't really like the boss fight itself (feels more like a cop out if anything) but it's still a really awesome design.

Master Spider of the Brutal Doom Version is awesome, he has more life and the machine gun is crazy, can hit you easily with more range. (i think he is not enough powerful in the normal version for a final boss in doom 1, specially...)
