In Squigy's original tutorial, it says you can put the bot information into a skin.pk3 as well.  I recommend trying that and then putting skin.pk3 into the skins folder.  For some reason, lots of stuff loads flawlessly when put into the skins folder including maps!

Yes but I would strongly advice you do not do this when the next launcher comes. The reason is that long ago in a galaxy far far away (in the doom community), people kept using this convenient method to run wad/pk3 files and whenever they reported a crash, it wasn't actually anything to do with the program but rather some add on that they happened to have running in their skins folder. The more junk you put in there that aren't skins, the harder it can be to find out what exactly is causing the problem

HOWEVER, adding the BOTINFO lump to your skin pk3 files should be no problem as far as I know.

Also, putting weapons in the /skins folder will NOT work.

Ok, Mike, so I've been putting stages in the skins folder because the way you originally said to use .wad files will not work online.  Dogolife and I tested it and despite having the same versions placed in the same folder as MM8BDM, it said I did not have the files.  It wasn't until I placed them in skins that they worked.

Both host and clients need to have -file whatever.wad when they run the game. Putting them in the skins directory just does that for you.

Not entirely. It's only bad if you get an error and can't find it because you have so much stuff in it!
Or at least, that's what I think Mike is saying.

Actually, I haven't gotten any errors since I put them in there.

You will start getting errors if the server/host are using invalid files and a conflict is made. For example, if you had a wad in there that replaces MM6TOM, and the server changes to that map, you'll get kicked for having incorrect WAD information.

Obviously its not going to be the case with your maps, as they use different names. But in the future when people want to replace resources, putting them in the skins folder is a bad idea. It's fine atm because there's no real way to play mods, but I'd drop the habit as soon as the launcher can do it
