Keyboard+Mouse or Controller/Paddle for FPS?
« on: February 11, 2015, 07:26:36 AM »
I tried to play Turok with a paddle because i downloaded the n64 version...seriously, how people can play with a paddle XBOX with a FPS ?....
When i have the N64, i was able to handle a paddle but now, it's like impossible..... I prefer  a keyboard/mouse + No-autoaim/Mouselook....

And you, for mm8bdm or some others fps, do you prefer keyboard/mouse or a controller? Some games are only on console so it can be a reason, but when it's on PC ?...

I put a Poll because it can be interesting about mm8bdm. :)

Both options, actually. I just rarely use my controller.

I only use a controller when I'm playing something with split-screen multiplayer and someone else is using the mouse and keyboard (IE: Serious Sam or Doom Legacy).

I prefer controllers, though both of mine are currently broken.

So I have to use a keyboard and mouse instead.

Using a controller when a mouse and keyboard are available is like ordering a well-done steak at an expensive restaurant then coating the whole thing in ketchup.

You just fucking don't.

Well, for years the only times I played first person shooters was on the Xbox (later, the 360). I'm just more comfortable with that control style by this point.

Sure we fucking do, it all depends on what feels better. By your logic, controllers for PC shouldn't even be a thing.

Personally, I prefer the keyboard and mouse for FPS games.  I suppose I've gotten too used to the pinpoint accuracy available with the mouse, instead of moving a control stick and hoping the reticule crosses an enemy.  Generally, if it's a racing game or beat 'em up (SASRT and Castle Crashers are good examples, respectively) I'll use a controller.

Excuse me while I don't fucking care about fucking logic fuck fuck fucking fuck fuck fucking fuck. (Best impression of an 11-year old internet user Y/Y?)

But seriously, I'm always on keyboard/mouse for computer FPS's. I only ever feel like using a controller for something like side-scrollers or fighting games ( e.g. MUGEN, except I don't have a USB Xbox controller or something like that.)

For an FPS, the keyboard-and-mouse setup tends to offer a lot more freedom of movement so I opt for that.

For an FPS on my computer, I use keyboard and mouse.

And I use arrow keys to move around, because fuck WASD. I've built up a hatred for that movement methos and I'm proud of it

I always thought the general unspoken rule was that you use KB+M for precise vision and a controller for precise movement. Don't tell me you guys only stick to one method for all games, do you?

I use controller for 2D games (like Megaman games)  or Car/Sport games...but for FPS, i tried to play with a N64 fps game, it was awful!.....
In the past, i played some fps with a controller....(goldeneye64 and others), but it's boring when you have played a lot with a keyboard/mouse.
Without a "little" autoaim, controller can become a pain or you need to configure it, really well.....

I tried N64 (emul) with a xbox controller, not so good lol.

Using a mouse for precise movement seems like a good choice, if the game allows it and it doesn't force smooth movement. I do that in Wolfenstein 3D. I also try playing vanilla doom using mostly mouse, even for movement, just for fun.

I'm completely fine using keys for driving, though.

Yeah i used the keyboard a lot, when i used the emulator for megaman games in the past (i didnt have my own bank card before...) So it was helpful, but i havent a controller for it....
Pretty playable with a keyboard but it seems better with a controller yeah. I think.
